Stewartvile Post Office

The Stewartville Post Office, located on the West Coast of Demerara, was opened by 1870 in the West Coast Demerara River Postal District. On January 1, 1880, the office was moved to the Telegraph Station and later transferred to Metenmeerzorg on November 1, 1890, at which point the Stewartville Post Office was closed. The office originally used the code mark “W5C” until 1880.

The Stewartville Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S) is a Panda Type E5 postmark.  The Panda Type E5 is Double Ring (D.R.), 22.5-24mm, 2 line date (2 L.D.) with year abbreviated (Y.A.).  Colony not shown.

The Panda Type E4.16 is cataloged as Type 3 and is listed as “Scarce” in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe.
