The No. 50 Village Post Office, opened by 1871 in the Corentyne Coast Postal District, operated at the local police station. After the closure of the police station, the post office was later reopened as No. 51 Village. However, there is some discrepancy among sources: Proud suggests it was “reopened later at No. 51,” while Townsend & Howe (T&H) and Nathan indicate it “became” No. 51. Despite the change in designation, the postmarks continued to reference No. 50 until 1966.
The following are the Date Stamps used at No. 50 Village with EKD prior to 22 January 1901, the day marking the end of the reign of Queen Victoria. In addition to listing the Panda Type #, for reference, we also list the T&H Type from The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe, the Type and referenced page from The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. Proud, and the referenced pages from British Guiana Coded Postmarks – Study paper No 3 by Michael Rego, for code-marks.
