British Guiana Post Office: Plaisance

Plaisance, East Coast Demerara

The Plaisance Post Office, located in the East Coast Demerara Postal District, 6 miles from Georgetown, was opened by 1860 at the Railway Station. On May 31, 1879, it was transferred to the Police Station, and on February 12, 1883, it was upgraded to a money order office. In 1892, Miss C. E. Hollingsworth served as the Postmistress.

This Plaisance Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S.) is a Panda Type E2 postmark. The Panda Type E2 is Single Ring (S.R.), 26.5 mm.  American Type.  3 line date (3 L.D.) B.G. at foot.  Known with year missing.

The Panda Type E2.17 is cataloged as a Type 2 and listed as “Very Rare” in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe.

This Plaisance Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S.) is a Panda Type E11 postmark. The Panda Type E11 is Double Ring (D.R.) 23.5 – 24.5 / 13.5 – 14.5 mm with dividing dots separating office from colony. 2 L.D. with Y.A. B. Guiana at foot.
