The Georgetown – Railway Station Post Office was established on March 7, 1866, when a letter box was erected at the Georgetown Railway Station to facilitate the reception of letters after the Georgetown General Post Office (G.P.O.) amended its Saturday closing time from 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A clerk was in attendance from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. to dispatch mails by the afternoon train. This service continued until 1882, when it was relocated to Carmichael Street in Georgetown.
