The following are the Date Stamps used at Georgetown with EKD prior to 22 January 1901, the day marking the end of the reign of Queen Victoria. This Georgetown Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S) is a Panda Type E3 postmark. The Panda Type E3 is S.R. 27 mm. American Type. 3 L.D. with Y.I.F. B. Guiana. at foot. It is similar to Panda Type E2.

The Panda Type E3.1 is listed as  as Georgetown Figure 20 and noted as very scarce in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe.

During the usage period of the Panda Type E3 postmarks, cork cancellations were often used to cancel the adhesive with the Panda Type E3 postmark stamped elsewhere on the cover. This makes the strikes on adhesives rare and valuable especially with so few covers from this era in circulation. See example on cover below.

This Georgetown Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S) is a Panda Type E6 postmark. The Panda Type E6 is D.R. 23 / 14 mm with office and colony (B. Guiana) continuous. 2 L.D. with Y.A.

The Panda Type E6.1-1 is listed as  a Georgetown Figures 26 & 27 in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe. This postmark is rather common.

T&H records two date-stamps based on spacing between A of Guiana & G of Georgetown. In The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. Proud, he separates by date periods (80- 82 & 87-89) and his images imply two sizes of date-stamps. There was a gap of usage between Mar 83 and Mar 86 however the size of date-stamp remained constant. Given how common this strike is, the possibility exists of more than two date-stamps in use between 80-83 with one being re-purposed for Hackney (see Type 10.1). Forgeries exist (see below).

This Georgetown Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S) is a Panda Type E6 postmark. The Panda Type E6 is D.R. 23 / 14 mm with office and colony (B. Guiana) continuous. 2 L.D. with Y.A.

The Panda Type E6.1-2 is listed as  a Georgetown Figures 26 & 27 in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe. This postmark is rather common.

T&H records two date-stamps based on spacing between A of Guiana & G of Georgetown. In The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. The Panda Type E7.22 is unlisted in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe. In The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. Proud, it is listed as Georgetown R35 (p. 115), however, the drawing is incorrect as it’s missing the inner ring. This postmark is very rare.

The Georgetown Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S) is a Panda Type E26 postmark.  The Panda Type E26 is S.R. 26.5 mm. 2 L.D. with Y.A. B. Guiana at foot.

The Panda Type E26.1 is similar to Panda Type E25 but without the time. It is previously unrecorded in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe or in The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. Proud.

A crude forgery of this postmark exists.

The Telegraph / Georgetown Circular Date Stamp (C.D.S) is a Panda Type E28 postmark.  The Panda Type E29 is Single Ring S.R. 24.5 mm. with dividing dots separating Telegraph from office. 2 L.D. with YIF or YA. Georgetown at foot. Colony not shown.

The Panda Type E29.1 is previously unrecorded in The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe or in The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. Proud.

On 29 September 1890, the Telephone & Telegraph office was opened at the corner of Hincks and Church St. in Georgetown. The Telegraph / Georgetown cancels were issued for the Telegraph letters (see example below) but on occasion are recorded as normal cancel in GPO Georgetown (see examples below) hence we have included it in our catalog. The two examples below are the only strikes on adhesives we have seen to date.
