
The Fort Wellington Post Office, located on the West Coast of Berbice, was opened in 1850 as a Receiving House at the local police station. On November 1, 1878, it was transferred from Hopetown to the Telegraph Station. The office became a money order office on January 1, 1884, and continued to serve the West Coast Berbice Postal District.
