British Guiana Post Offices: Clonbrook

Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara

The Clonbrook Post Office was opened on September 1, 1870, in the East Coast Demerara Postal District, 18 miles from Georgetown. By 1890, it was located at the Clonbrook Railway Station. On May 1, 1899, the office was moved to Ann’s Grove and later returned to the Railway Station in August 1929.

The post office served the Ann’s Grove Village district and continued using the Ann’s Grove date-stamp until 1951, when modern Clonbrook postmarks began to appear. It was initially assigned the coded postmark “E8C.”

The following are the Date Stamps used at Clonbrook with EKD prior to 22 January 1901, the day marking the end of the reign of Queen Victoria. In addition to listing the Panda Type #, for reference, we also list the T&H Type from The Postage Stamps and Postal History of British Guiana by Townsend & Howe, the Type and referenced page from The Postal History of British Guiana by Edward B. Proud, and the referenced pages from British Guiana Coded Postmarks – Study paper No 3 by Michael Rego, for code-marks.
