The Buxton Post Office, located 11 miles from Georgetown on the East Coast of Demerara, was originally opened as a Receiving House in 1850 at Mr. J.T. Glover’s. By 1856, it had moved to the nearby Vigilance Police Station, but it returned to Buxton a few years later. On February 5, 1883, the post and telegraph office was relocated from Messrs. Collier & Sons to premises nearly opposite.
The Buxton Post Office was part of the East Coast Demerara Postal District and continued to use the coded postmark “E3C” after its transfer from Vigilance in 1868.
