The Beterverwagting Post Office, located eight miles from Georgetown on the East Coast of Demerara, was established by 1860 within the East Coast Demerara Postal District. Initially situated at the residence of Mr. J.E. Cumings in 1850, it was later moved to the police station by 1860. On November 1, 1882, the office relocated again, this time from the railway station back to the police station.
The post office became a money order office on November 2, 1897, and operated under the code mark “E2C.”
